Description

Intriguing General Motors Pattern Cent
Pollock-4060, MS62 Red and Brown

Undated (ca. 1967) General Motors Pattern Cent, Pollock-4060, R.5, MS62 Red and Brown. This interesting pattern features a layout similar to Wheat cents, but with a rendering of Liberty on the obverse. The legends do not have any meaning. Struck in copper with a plain edge. A control code was etched into each obverse die, which enabled the General Motors researchers to identify which die pair struck each coin. This piece is 28-L. Flashy luster radiates beneath the mixed red and medium-brown patina. The strike is soft, as usual, and there are only a couple of inconsequential marks. An attractive example of this unusual pattern.
