    Delightful General Motors Pattern Cent
    Pollock-4060, MS63 Red and Brown

Undated (ca. 1967) General Motors Pattern Cent, Pollock-4060, R.5, MS63 Red and Brown NGC. Struck in copper with a plain edge. Liberty faces left on the obverse, and there is a wreath on the reverse. The legends are nonsense. These patterns were struck by by General Motors to test a roller press that was being developed for the U.S. Mint. However, the Mint was not satisfied by GM's work and the project was scrapped. This piece has control code 29-L. An arc of russet contrasts nicely with the red and lilac toning over the rest of the surfaces. The strike is soft, as always, and there are just a few minuscule handling marks. An interesting specimen.
