    Dateless Flying Eagle Cent Pattern
    PR62 Brown, Judd-179

Undated P1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-179, Pollock-207, Low R.7, PR62 Brown PCGS. Snow-1858 PT1b. 4.66 gm. The obverse shows the Flying Eagle device as introduced for circulation on the small cent in 1857, but there are no legends. The reverse is the regular issue High Leaves, Closed E cent of 1857. The date and country name are absent. Traditionally designated as a 1856 pattern, though "fleagle" expert Rick Snow believes the pattern was struck in 1858. The reverse is the same as the Snow-9 1856 cent struck for collectors during the late 1850s. Struck in pure copper with a plain edge. This specimen has a needle-sharp strike and deeply blended golden-brown and powder-blue toning. A minute obverse rim nick at 4 o'clock and a couple of faint hair-thin lines on the right obverse field identify the present piece. (PCGS# 11783)
