Description

1922 $1 AU53 PCGS. VAM-1F. A Top 50 Variety. This is the so-called Field Break variety, which shows a prominent die break in the reverse field just before the eagle's breast. This variety is one of 10 or 12 significant die breaks known for the 1922 issue, the undoubted result of the enormous mintage of more than 51 million silver dollars in this year. This piece offers silver-gold surfaces that are still somewhat lustrous, with a few dark copper-colored spots scattered about.
