1922-S Peace Dollar
Conditional Rarity, MS66

1922-S $1 MS66 PCGS. Although one does not normally think of the 1922-S Peace dollar as any sort of conditional rarity, given its large production exceeding 17 million coins, but it nonetheless is rare in Gem Mint State and quite rare any finer. The present MS66 PCGS piece is among 21 submissions in that grade along with one MS66+ (9/20). This piece is virtually untoned, showing abundant quicksilver luster and extensive die-preparation lines, clearly an early strike from newly polished dies. The strike is sharp overall, save for trifling weakness on Liberty's central hair curls. This is a Peace dollar date that seldom appears in so high a grade. Series aficionados will act accordingly.(Registry values: N2998)
