Impressive 1924-S Gem Dollar1924-S $1 MS65 PCGS. The relatively low mintage (1.728 million pieces) and, according to David Bowers in his Silver Dollars and Trade Dollars of the United States, "... the relative unavailability of mint-sealed bags combine to make this one of the scarcest issues of the early part of the Peace dollar series ..." In full Gem condition, a little more than 120 examples have been certified by PCGS and NGC combined, and just six pieces grade finer.
The Gem we offer in this lot displays dazzling luster, and just a whisper of light tan color on the Liberty and the eagle motifs. The design elements are fairly well impressed, including on the reverse, which is often weak. A few minute marks on the central devices do not distract. Population: 66 in 65, 5 finer (3/06).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 257K, PCGS# 7364)
