Condition Scarcity 1928-S Gem Dollar
Popular VAM-3 Doubled Die Obverse
1928-S $1 MS65 ANACS. Doubled Die Obverse. VAM-3. Top 50
Variety. Doubling is seen on the TRU of TRUST. The 1928-S is a
scarce, semi-key issue with only 1.632 million pieces produced.
Numismatic News staff writer Paul Green, writing in the
April 6, 2004 issue, says: "The 1928-S ... was not saved, due in
part to being compared to the lower-mintage 1928 (360,649 pieces).
Moreover, with the Great Depression arriving, some that were saved
were probably spent."This Gem displays sharply struck design features, much more so than is commonly seen on this issue. Intense luster radiates from both sides, and a layer of golden-gray color exhibits blushes of pale violet. Well preserved for the grade designation.
