1928-S Peace Dollar, MS65
Conditional Key Date
1928-S $1 MS65 NGC. The 1928-S is one of the rarest dates in
the series in Gem condition. Only the 1925-S is a close rival in
this grade, and exactly which is rarer depends on an unknown number
of possible resubmissions at each service. In terms of auction
appearances, the 1928-S is the slightly scarcer date in MS65. Both
dates are prohibitively rare in MS66 and unknown finer. This
lustrous Gem is among the finest 1928-S dollars we have ever
handled. Some softness of strike is noted on the central high
points, but the outstanding preservation balances the eye appeal. A
blush of delicate champagne toning graces each side. A loupe
reveals a few truly faint, hair-thin grazes that preclude a finer
grade but hardly impact the visual appreciation. Census: 44 in 65,
