Description
MS65 1928-S Peace Dollar
Exemplary Strike and Color
1928-S $1 MS65 PCGS. CAC. Although the 1934-S Peace dollar
is the rarest series issue in Mint State overall, the 1928-S is the
rarest in Gem condition. Finer examples of the 1928-S are virtually
unheard of, namely a single MS66 each certified at NGC and PCGS. By
comparison, those services combined have certified 38 submissions
of the 1934-S in MS66.The present Gem 1928-S is certified in a small-size green-label holder, but it stands alone on its own merits regardless. The strike is far above-average on the high points of Liberty's hair and the eagle's central wing feathers. Rich cartwheel luster complements exemplary surfaces that are primarily copper-gold with bluish accents. Series specialists who have sought a top-notch Gem 1928-S would do well to give this piece serious consideration. Population: 46 in 65, 1 finer (9/11).(Registry values: N4719)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 257W, PCGS# 7374, Greysheet# 7909)
