Description

1928-S Peace Dollar, MS65
Nearly Uncollectible Finer

1928-S $1 MS65 PCGS. The 1928-S is, by a large margin, one of the top condition keys in the Peace dollar series, being far scarcer in Gem condition than the lower-mintage 1928 Philadelphia coin. The only date that rivals the 1928-S for top condition rarity in the series is the 1925-S.

The San Francisco Mint struck more than 1.6 million silver dollars in 1928, and examples are usually available through MS64. However, in MS65, this issue is legitimately scarce, while PCGS and NGC each report only a single numerically finer example (8/24). This coin displays warm golden toning across softly frosted luster, while the central devices show strong definition. No major abrasions are evident. Population: 77 in 65 (4 in 65+), 1 finer (7/24).(Registry values: N4719)
