1934-S $1 MS66 PCGS. CAC. Ex: MBJ. The 1934-S Peace dollar
is, regardless of condition, the rarest issue in the series
overall, in Mint State. The San Francisco Mint struck just over 1
million Peace dollars in 1934, leaving only the 1927-S as the
smallest branch mint issue. It appears that the numismatic
community, both casual and professional, may have overlooked the
1934-S and labeled it common and easily attainable. In addition,
San Francisco coinage typically got released into circulation, so
with collectors ignoring it and commerce circulating it, the issue
became conditionally scarce in Mint State.This piece displays gorgeous, frosty luster on surfaces that show no more than a trace of gold patina amid the silver-white intensity. The minimal color shows off the bold strike and a noticeable absence of abrasions to maximum effect. Until the last several years the high standard for the 1934-S was MS66+, but there is now one sole example graded MS67 at NGC, which stands as the only piece numerically finer than this outstanding Premium Gem (9/25). This example is a very strong candidate for both type and Registry set collections, especially with CAC endorsement.
