Republic 8 Reales 1840 AREQ-MV VF30 NGC, Arequipa mint, KM142.7, Elizondo-143 (Very Rare). A thrilling and seldom-seen representative from the iconic Arequipa series, where examples of any type or date elude regular market appearance and are widely celebrated by Latin American collectors. While having experienced ample use in commerce, the piece remains one of just three currently certified, confirming the absolute rarity of this date. A small handful of examples have been brought to auction in recent decades, and outside of the AU50 sold in 2017, all appear to be of comparable or lesser quality to the current offering. As such, we anticipate fervent bidding from the Peruvian specialist.
