Description

1897 Barber Half Dollar, PR67 Ultra Cameo
Outstanding Contrast and Sharply Struck

1897 50C PR67 Ultra Cameo NGC. The 1897 comes from a proof mintage of only 731 coins, the lowest proof mintage of the decade for any Barber half. Few surviving examples can match the magnificent quality of this Superb Gem Ultra Cameo. Both sides display outstanding field-motif contrast, and the design features are sharply struck throughout, including the often-soft fletchings and claws. Even the right shield corner, which is weak on most specimens, falls just short of full delineation. A short, shallow horizontal mark on the upper part of Liberty's cap and another in the field between the cap and the wreath might help identify the piece. Census: 8 in 67 (1 in 67+) Ultra Cameo, 13 finer (2/13).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24NZ, PCGS# 96544, Greysheet# 6644)
