Description

1898 Barber Half, PR68 Deep Cameo
Glittering, White-on-Black Contrast

1898 50C PR68 Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. One of just 775 proofs struck, this remarkable example shows richly frosted devices that contrast boldly against the watery-deep, highly reflective fields. Just the slightest hint of faint champagne toning accents each side of this otherwise brilliant Superb Gem. The surfaces show absolutely no evidence of even the most delicate hairlines under strong magnification.

As expected for this seldom-awarded grade, the design elements exhibit razor sharp definition. A tiny lint mark exists beneath R of AMERICA, but it is of no consequence. PCGS reports just 14 MS68 Deep Cameo coins for the entire series, and all are dated between 1895 and 1900 -- the "golden years" of high-quality, high-contrast brilliant proofs. Population: 3 in 68 Deep Cameo, 0 finer (9/15).
