1898 50C PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. Just a few short years before the "brilliant era" transformed the way American proof coinage looked, the U.S. Mint produced some of the most beautiful cameo coinage of any proof era. This magnificently preserved 1898 Barber half comes from the tail end of the sequence, exemplifying its best traits through incredibly thick frost that takes on a creamy hue as it coats the decisively struck central devices. Deep surrounding mirrors are minimally toned and primed for maximum contrast. A simply amazing specimen.
