Description

1898 Half Dollar, PR68 Ultra Cameo
Condition Census Example

1898 50C PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. A smallish mintage of 735 proof Barber half dollars was accomplished at the Philadelphia Mint in 1898. The issue was well-produced and many examples seen have sharp strikes and Cameo surfaces, but this magnificent PR68 specimen stands out, even among the numerous high-quality examples known. The design elements of this remarkable piece are fully struck, with intricate detail on Liberty's hair and the eagle's talons. The virtually flawless brilliant surfaces include deeply mirrored fields that contrast profoundly with the richly frosted devices to create an intense cameo effect. Overall eye appeal is simply terrific. Census: 6 in 68 Ultra Cameo (1 in 68+ ), 0 finer (3/20).(Registry values: P1)
