Description
1907 Half Dollar, PR68 Cameo
Single Finest Cameo
1907 50C PR68 Cameo NGC. The 1907 is a scarce proof issue
with only 575 coins produced. Most survivors grade in non-Cameo
grades. Due to the process by which proof dies were prepared during
this period, very few examples were ever struck with distinct
field-device contrast. In all grades, NGC reports only 15 Cameos.
The present piece is not only the sole finest of these, but is also
a full grade point finer than any non-Cameo certified by NGC
(6/15). Sparkling mint brilliance is seen on each side with no
trace of color present. The fields display bottomless pools of
mirrored reflectivity, which give the coin a "black" appearance in
those areas of negative space on both obverse and reverse. The
devices are bright and frosted, aglow against the deep mirroring of
the fields. Exceptional quality, ideal for type representation.Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2005), lot 4287.
