Description

1909 Barber Half, Contrasted PR68 Cameo
From the Hugon Collection

1909 50C PR68 Cameo NGC. The John C. Hugon Collection was among the most spectacular assemblages of Barber coinage that it had ever been our privilege to offer when it came to us in 2005. Especially strong in the proof Barber series, the Hugon Collection set many milestones that continue to this day. This piece was earlier certified in an NGC slab with the Hugon pedigree on it, and now it is recertified with the same NGC cert number but lacking the Hugon name. It is clearly the same coin, however. For Registry purposes, none is a better choice. Each side of this coin presents a fully brilliant, snow-white finish on the devices, while the deeply mirrored fields are free of handling marks. The strike is well-executed, and a touch of light golden toning warms the periphery on each side. Census: 2 in 68 Cameo, 0 finer (5/25).
