1895 Barber Quarter, PR68 Deep Cameo

1895 25C PR68 Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. Every coin in the Barber
quarter proof set is a low-mintage issue more or less, ranging from
a low of 380 pieces for the 1914 to 1,245 for the series-opening
1892. The present 1895 quarter is among the finest survivors of the
1895 issue, struck to the extent of 880 coins. This high-end
representative offers extraordinary eye appeal. Perhaps the most
impressive feature is the remarkable degree of cameo contrast
between the richly frosted devices and the glassy, deeply mirrored
fields. Neither toning, save for a hint of pale golden color on the
reverse, nor grade-limiting blemishes interrupt the radiant sheen
of this fully detailed Superb Gem. A slight amount of clockwise die
rotation is noted, this being quite unusual for a proof issue. The
typically seen "shepherd's hook" inverted lintmark is visible in
front of Liberty's eye. This coin remains the sole finest
Deep/Ultra Cameo example thus far certified by either service -- as
it was seven years ago when we last handled this marvelous piece
(8/12).Ex: Bruce Scher #1 All-Time PCGS Registry Set (retired in 2004) / Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 2/2005), lot 4087, which realized $16,100.
