Amazing Proof 1896 Barber Quarter, PR68 Ultra Cameo
1896 25C PR68 Deep Cameo NGC. Even when held at arm's length or farther away, the contrast on this piece is exceptional. In fact, this piece would be perfectly suited for a 1996 proof set, except it was minted a century earlier. The obverse is fully brilliant and the reverse is lightly toned with hazy champagne color. It is a classic "black and white" proof, so named for the lustrous white devices that are surrounded by deeply mirrored fields that appear to be black when examined on a perpendicular sight line. This remarkable piece will satisfy a variety of different collecting interests, including date and type collections as well as specialized Barber coinage sets.
