    1896 Quarter, Border-Toned PR68
    Ice-White Motifs, Deep Watery Fields

1896 25C PR68 NGC. CAC. Mind-blowing -- there is no other way to describe the impact this 1896 proof makes on the eyes. Tack-sharp relief elements display genuinely glowing frost-white luster, while the depth of the mirroring in the fields seems almost unreal. Old-time sun-gold, violet, and ocean-blue toning hugs the borders, while the interiors remain nearly brilliant to accentuate the Cameo effect. A loupe exposes the flawless preservation of the fields. CAC has endorsed three non-Cameos in this grade and none finer; Ultra Cameo coins in this grade have also seen three approvals at CAC with none finer. Census: 19 in 68 (2 in 68 ), 0 finer (2/16).
