Description

Extraordinary Cameo Proof 1896 Barber Quarter

1896 PR 69 NGC. A memorably preserved, stark white cameo with devices that seem afloat in the fragile, deeply mirrored fields. The quality of proof production during this time frame is spectacularly high, with specimens from gold down to minors displaying as much contrast as any in our nation's coinage history. Not a single hairline can be found on this amazing proof Barber, even under magnification, and only a few pinpoint frost breaks are noticed on the portrait, quite possibly as struck. Population: 4 in 69, and not surprisingly none higher (1/99).
