1897 25C PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. An amazing Superb Gem proof with deep or "ultra" cameo contrast, as labeled by NGC. Both sides are entirely brilliant and completely untoned. The devices are incredible with full and complete design definition, enhanced by highly lustrous and fully brilliant mint frost. In the late 1890s, contrast on proof coins was as strong as ever, but that soon changed. The next decade saw serious attempts to eliminate cameo contrast entirely, and it would be several decades before it returned. For the type collector who desires a Superb Gem proof with exceptional contrast, this 1897 is an ideal choice.
