    1898 Quarter, Toned PR66
    Deep Mirroring in the Fields

1898 25C PR66 PCGS. CAC. Superb, deeply reflective fields are wonderfully toned to a soft pink or rose, with the lower portion of the reverse having toned further to an electric indigo. This distinctive toning is evenly distributed over all surfaces. The strike is bold and there are no disruptive contact marks.

Population Data (9/15): PCGS reports 21 in PR66 with 23 submissions finer. NGC data account for 33 coins in this grade and 39 finer.

Heritage Commentary: Suitable for type purposes, the proof 1898 Barber quarter is usually available. However, finding a high-grade example with attractive toning can be a challenge, with or without cameo contrast.

Provenance: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 10/2001), lot 6375; Santa Clara Bullet (Heritage, 12/2002), lot 832; purchased privately from Heritage (1/2003).(Registry values: N2998)
