Condition Census 1899 Superb Proof Quarter

1899 25C PR68 NGC. Close examination with a magnifier fails to reveal any flaws on either side, surely there must be but we just haven't found them yet. This is an unquestionably original coin. This may sound like an unusual statement at first since the surfaces of each side show a significant amount of brilliance. However, this brilliance is accented with a colorful mixture of original patina that seems to change as the coin rotates under a light. The obverse is coated with golden and purple-lilac iridescence. The reverse shows a more even overlay of lilac and pink color. Deeply mirrored with a light layer of mint frost on the devices. Only 11 Proof 68 coins have thus far been certified by both NGC and PCGS combining proofs, cameos, and deep cameos (11/04).(#5685) (Registry values: N4719)
