Condition Census 1902 Gem Cameo Proof Barber Quarter

1902 25C PR67 Cameo PCGS. In 1902, the Philadelphia mint began the general practice of producing proof coins with a non-contrasting appearance between both the fields and devices. This example somehow escaped that process as the head, eagle, stars, and lettering all exhibit a lightly frosted appearance, probably as a result of being a first strike from new dies. This example is completely untoned and displays a brilliant, snow-white finish. No reportable detractions are seen on this carefully preserved piece. Population: 2 in 67, none finer at either service (4/03).
Ex: Baltimore Signature Sale (Heritage, 7/03), lot 7036, which realized $7,130.
