Description

1906 Barber Quarter, PR68
Among the Finest Certified
Spectacular Toning

1906 25C PR68 PCGS. CAC. A bold strike complements the deep glassy fields of this remarkably high-end and beautifully toned Superb Gem proof. Both sides show an array of lemon-gold and olive-green toning, with tinges of violet and larger areas of amber and russet present. Subtle field-motif contrast shows on the obverse, though the reverse is a little too deeply toned to warrant the designation from PCGS.

Population Data (4/15): Among non-Cameo submissions, three in PR68 at PCGS are finest, along with 12 PR68 (one PR68+, two PR68 ★ ) at NGC. This is one of four in PR68 with the CAC green sticker.

Heritage Commentary: With Cameo examples being prohibitively rare due to the way the dies were manufactured, high-end non-Cameos are about as nice as the average collector can obtain for the 1906 proof quarter. Even so, the issue is scarce at the Superb Gem level, and PR68 coins, such as the piece offered here, are major rarities.
