Description
1909 Quarter, PR68
None Numerically Finer
1909 25C PR68 NGC. This high-end Superb Gem proof showcases
intermingled shades of olive-gold and turquoise over pale amber and
champagne toning on each side. A high degree of reflectivity frames
the satiny devices, while the only discernable strike weakness is
seen on the upper-right corner of the shield, as usual.Population Data (9/15): Twelve submissions in PR68 (two in PR68 ★ ) are the finest at NGC, and eight in PR68 are finest at PCGS.
Heritage Commentary: The proof 1909 Barber quarter had a limited mintage of just 650 pieces, few of which survive in Superb Gem condition. A handful of PR68 examples are the finest obtainable by patient collectors. This was the finer of two 1909 proof quarters that Gene Gardner had in his collection; the other was a PR67 example.
Provenance: Purchased from David Lawrence Rare Coins (11/1999).(Registry values: N4719)
