Description

1914 Quarter, PR67
Modest Field-Device Contrast, Ex: Childs

1914 25C PR67 PCGS. Ex: The Childs Collection. This piece was described in the Childs catalog as "A superb cameo Proof, an absolutely stunning Barber quarter." Although not designated as a Cameo by PCGS, this mostly brilliant coin does exhibit modest field-motif contrast on each side. The strike is bold and tinges of amber and ocean-blue color appear periodically around the peripheries.

Population Data (9/15): PCGS shows 14 submissions in PR67 and four finer. NGC reports 17 pieces in this grade (two PR67 ★ , one PR67+) and 10 finer.

Heritage Commentary: The 1914 had the lowest mintage of the proof Barber quarter series (380 coins); high-grade survivors are always in demand, especially if they exhibit noticeable field-motif contrast.

Provenance: Possibly acquired directly from the Mint by C.F. Childs; Walter H. Childs Collection (Bowers and Merena, 8/1999), lot 309.(Registry values: N2998)
