    Description

    B-1a 1843 Original Half Cent
    Boldly Detailed PR64 Brown

1843 1/2 C Original PR64 Brown PCGS. B-1a, R.6. The large berries in the wreath identify the "Original" Braided Hair half cents, a group that also includes some coins that Breen called "Series VII" restrikes. The strength of die file marks at stars 2, 3, and 12 were the distinguishing feature, and they are quite bold on this piece. It is boldly detailed, although with somewhat dull fields that only show slight reflectivity. Some minor surface marks should aid in provenance research. It is believed that less than two dozen of these coins still exist today. Our EAC grade PR60.
    Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 9/2008), lot 134, which realized $12,650.(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 223E, PCGS# 1266)
