Description

Select Original Proof 1856 Half Cent

1856 1/2 C PR63 Red and Brown PCGS. B-1, R.7 as a proof. The raised die lump (as made) on the I in UNITED distinguishes this die variety from Breen-3, the restrike with a doubled T in CENT. The strike is exacting aside from a few obverse dentils at 5 o'clock, and the faded cherry-red and olive surfaces are undisturbed except for two small, subtle spots on the upper left obverse field and a blush of steel-blue toning near star 12. EAC 60. Population: 5 in 63 Red and Brown, 8 finer (4/06).(Registry values: P1)
