Description

1913 Type One Buffalo Nickel, PR67+
Sole Year for the Type One Design

1913 5C Type One PR67+ NGC. The Type One 1913 nickel has an importance to the collector unlike any other proof in the series -- even the 1936 Satin Finish. It is an actual design change, the original, adopted design, before the mound was lowered and a determinate horizontal line placed on the mound that clearly separates it from the denomination. While the mintage of 1,520 pieces may seem unimpressive within the context of the matte proof series, there is no other choice for a Type One design. This is a magnificent example whose surfaces are defect-free and each side shows just a bit of light champagne-golden toning. A coin for the serious type collector. Census: 43 in 67 (6 in 67+, 2 in 67★ ), 9 finer (11/21).(Registry values: N2998)
