Description

Superb Proof Type Two 1913 Nickel

1913 5C Type Two PR67 PCGS. The Type Two 1913 nickel is a somewhat overlooked issue, standing as it does in the shadow of the one-year Type One. It is a curiously scarce issue also, even though 1,514 pieces were struck. The number of certified survivors is so small that Lange (2000) believes a decent number of coins must have been melted as unsold at year's end. Pinpoint striking details characterize this piece along with nearly perfect preservation of the surfaces. This is a coin that can really "face up to a close up." Just put a 16x magnifier over the surfaces and try to find what keeps this coin from an even higher grade. Mostly brilliant, when closely examined one notices there is just the slightest hint of pale rose and lilac coloration present. Population: 38 in 67, 1 finer (4/03). (NGC ID# 278S, PCGS# 3990)

    Weight: 5.00 grams

    Metal: 75% Copper, 25% Nickel
