Description

1914 JD-1 Buffalo Nickel, PR68 CAC
Among the Finest

1914 5C JD-1, R.2, PR68 PCGS. CAC. The Philadelphia Mint issued four years of proof buffalo nickels from 1913 to 1916 before a hiatus on proof nickels would last till 1936. 1914 had a distribution of 1,275 proof examples, a paltry amount compared to the over 20 million circulation mintage.
This proof is exceptional, with immensely iridescent shimmer displaying pastel hues of pink, yellow, and silver-blue. The strike is razor sharp with no marks or abrasions that would diminish this coin's immense appeal. This Superb Gem is at the zenith of 1914 proofs, with just one other Plus attribution coin contesting this example's Registry rank. Just eight examples in this grade have been endorsed by CAC (3/26). PCGS Population: 21 in 68 (1 in 68+), 0 finer (3/26). CAC: 8 in 68, 0 finer (3/26).
