Description
1916 Buffalo Nickel, Colorful PR68
Lowest-Mintage Matte Proof Issue
Among the Finest Certified, CAC Endorsed
1916 5C JD-1, High R.2, PR68 PCGS. CAC. Colorful iridescence
encircles the central motifs on both the obverse and the reverse of
this Superb Gem proof nickel. Violet and canary-yellow accents join
sunset-gold and ice-blue hues that gleam across satin-smooth, fully
struck surfaces. The 600-piece mintage is by far the smallest among
all proof Buffalo nickels. Possibly, not all of the 1916 proofs
were sold. This is an exceptional survivor that is tied for the
numerical finest at either PCGS or NGC. PCGS reports a single proof
graded 68+ and CAC shows only one other MS68 receiving its
approval. It is nearly impossible to find a single flaw or
distraction on this spectacular example. The fields are especially
vibrant for the matte proof format. This coin is housed in a
previous generation PCGS green label holder. PCGS Population: 11 in
68 (1 in 68+), 0 finer. CAC: 2 in 68, 0 finer (9/24).From The Greensboro Collection, Part XI.
