Description

1916 Nickel, Brilliant PR67
Final Matte Proof Issue

1916 5C PR67 NGC. Only 600 matte proof Buffalo nickels were struck in 1916. No proof dimes, quarters, or half dollars were issued that year for proof sets, and collectors showed little interest in the matte proof cents and nickels by themselves. This issue is rarely offered in Superb Gem condition, and only a handful of pieces are known finer than the present. The strike is full, and each side is brilliant with a blend of satin luster and matte texturing. Census: 23 in 67 (1 in 67+, 1 in 67 ★ ), 1 finer (3/18).
