NGC 1824/2 PR 65. JR-1. A handsomely toned example of this elusive early proof issue. It is our conclusion that this is the same specimen offered in our 1992 ANA sale, Lot 1676, although the certification number does not match. At that time, it was described "Only three proof examples of this date are known of this rare issue and, to date, (the population is unchanged since) this is the only specimen to have been certified by either of the major grading services. The fields are clear and deeply reflective and the surfaces are easily of gem quality. This date has a reputation for softness of strike in the centers and this coin is a testimony to that. For a proof striking to show weak hair curls in effect excuses all business strikes that show a similar striking weakness. But this is of little consequence and certainly should have no effect on the desirability or value of this piece. We have been unable to trace the pedigree of this important piece, but it may well be from the Menjou Collection of 1950. A very rare opportunity for the dime specialist or type collector in need of a no-questions proof Bust dime."
