Description
Rare Proof 1829 Half-Dime
1829 PR 62 ANACS. V-5. One of only about 20 proofs believed to exist of this issue from seven die pairings. The V-2 and 3 variety constitute the majority of known specimens with 11 pieces between them. This die pairing was unrecognized in the proof format in Breen's 1977 reference on proof coinage. The highly reflective fields on this piece make it instantly recognizable as a proof "across the room." Only the slightest amount of patina on each side barely subdues the minor hairlines and handling marks the coin exhibits. Still, an impressive proof in a series where proofs are quite uncommon.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 27CK, PCGS# 4294, GSID# 3732)
