Gem Proof 1834 Half Dime
V-4, LM-4

1834 H10C PR65 PCGS. V-4, LM-4, R.6 in proof format. In 1834, half dimes, in addition to the other statutory denominations, were struck in proof format in small quantities and assembled into sets for presentation to foreign leaders. The most famous such set went to the King of Siam. Another set was given to Sultan of Muscat. Upon the death of Federal emissary Edmund Roberts, the remaining undelivered sets were broken up and disbursed. Proofs of V-4 preceded the business strikes, since the present specimen has no sign of a break within the N in UNITED. The coin is fully struck and richly patinated in aquamarine, peach, and lilac shades. Evaluation beneath a lens cannot locate any visible imperfections aside from a shallow mint-made strike-through on the cheek. Certified in a green label holder. Population: 2 in 65, 2 finer (9/12).
