Description
1829 O-108 Half Dollar, PR65
Second Finest Proof 1829 Half
1829 50C PR65 NGC. O-108, R.8 as a Proof. This is the same
variety as the first Norweb 1829 proof half dollar. That collection
also had a proof example of O-112. Until the present piece made its
debut appearance to the numismatic community, five proof examples
of the 1829 half dollar were known, and each was a different
variety. The present Gem proof is the second proof identified from
the O-108 die pair. Only one of the now six known proofs is finer
than this piece.1. O-106 PR60. Bowers and Merena (1/1985), lot 2628.

3. O-108 PR65 NGC. Obtained by a European noble while visiting this country in the middle 19th century and retained by the same family until the present time. The present specimen.
4. O-108 PR63. Norweb Collection (Bowers and Merena, 11/1988), lot 3095.

This lovely Gem has mostly brilliant silver surfaces with faint gold toning and light blue concentrated at the right obverse. The fields are fully mirrored and the strike is exceptional. Faint scratches appear on Liberty's face and neck.
