Description

1836 Blundered Denomination Half in the Proof Format

1836 Lettered Edge PR 63 NGC. 50/00. O-116. An incredible proof with deeply mirrored fields and a flashy overall appearance. Unlike other early proofs, there is absolutely no mistaking the status of this piece. The fields are brilliant and the devices lightly frosted. A touch of grayish-violet toning covers the surfaces on both sides. This is the famous Blundered Denomination variety that was discovered in 1953. Used as the plate coin in Breen's 1977 proof book, page 64.
