Snow-3 1856 Flying Eagle Cent PR10
1856 1C PR10 PCGS. Snow-3. This die pair is associated with business strikes, but in recent years PCGS has designated all 1856 Flying Eagle cents as proofs. Snow-3 was principally struck in 1856 to demonstrate the new diameter and design to government officials. A majority of the issue is from Snow-9 dies, which are proofs restruck in the late 1850s for collector sale. Most Snow-9 examples come in high grade, while well circulated pieces such as the present coin are usually Snow-3, since the initial recipients were noncollectors. Toned deep olive brown, with bold legends and substantial remaining plumage detail. The only noticeable surface detraction is a small curly strike-through (as made) near the I in AMERICA.(Registry values: N1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 227A, PCGS# 2037, GSID# 15311)
