Description

Legendary 1856 Flying Eagle Cent, PR63

1856 1C PR63 NGC. Snow-9. The usual die pair for this perennial marketplace favorite. The Snow-9 cents are generally well made proofs, such as the present piece. The strike is razor-sharp, down to the veins of the cotton leaves. The surfaces are unabraded and toned dusky green-gray aside from glimpses of the initial apricot-gold color near peripheral design elements. The fields display an occasional whisper of granularity, enough to limit the grade but not the eye appeal. Just prior to the Civil War, this issue was the hottest ticket in the budding coin collecting hobby, and every collector worth his salt had to have at least one.(Registry values: N4719)
