Description

Famous 1856 Flying Eagle Cent, PR63

1856 1C PR63 PCGS. Snow-9. Attractively toned with lemon-tinged centers and rich rose-red toning throughout the peripheries. As is expected of the Snow-9 die pair, the strike is needle-sharp. Outstanding for the grade aside from a single spot beneath the upper crossbar of the E in CENT. Encased in a first generation holder.
The 1856 Flying Eagle Cent is one of the most important issues in the history of numismatics. Not only is it the first small cent date listed in the Guide Book, it was the cause for a major expansion in American numismatics prior to the Civil War. Many folks who had no prior interest in coins took up the hobby when they learned that Flying Eagle cents had been issued that were worth a dollar,100 times their face value.(Registry values: N4719)
