Description

    Fully Struck Proof Near-Gem
    1856 Flying Eagle Cent

1856 1C PR64 PCGS. CAC. Snow-9. A Choice proof of this famous introductory small cent issue. Although technically a pattern (Judd-180), the 1856 Flying Eagle cent has been collected as the key date of the series since the advent of the small diameter cent. Snow-9 is known for intricate strikes, and the present specimen provides full design detail, down to the veins of the cotton leaves. The obverse is honey-gold with occasional hints of steel-blue, while the reverse is medium brown with lighter tan toning near the margin. Minute granularity on the breast feathers, on the crest of the front wing, and near the top of the wreath are of minimal impact to the imposing eye appeal.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 227A, PCGS# 2037)

    Weight: 4.67 grams
