Description

Desirable Gem Proof 1856 Flying Eagle Cent

1856 1C PR65 NGC. Snow-2. The "Pointed U" obverse paired with Reverse 1857 B, noted for the die lines next to the ends of the left ribbon. While technically a pattern, the 1856 Flying Eagle cent was produced in sufficient quantities as to be challenging, but not overly so, and through the decades it has gained numismatic acceptance as nearly a "regular" issue and certainly one worthy of collecting. Luminous mahogany and mushroom-brown shadings dominate each side of this crisply detailed Gem. The broad fields offer considerable mirrors, an unusual state after so many years, and post-striking flaws are minimal. Immensely appealing.
