    1856 Flying Eagle Cent, PR64
    Snow-1, Tilted ONE CENT

1856 1C Snow-1 PR64 NGC. Eagle Eye Photo Seal, no card included. ONE CENT is tilted relative to the wreath, diagnostic for this rare 1856 die variety. The dies are moderately rotated, also characteristic of Snow-1. The uniform tan-brown color provides further confirmation of the variety. Rick Snow (2014) states "only ten examples are presently known" in copper-nickel, with one other confirmed in copper. Snow also writes, "the probable prototype striking of the first small cents," prior to Snow-3. A fully struck Choice proof with unabraded matte surfaces. The reverse exhibits a partial wire rim. Free from any spots or planchet detractions. Outstanding quality for the designated grade.

With the superb catalog, a masterwork prepared by Mark Borckhardt, the sale was destined to meet all of my expectations; that it did, and then some. Be assured that I would highly recommend Heritage Auctions to any of my associates contemplating the sale
