Description

1856 Flying Eagle Cent, PR64
Snow-3, Famous Key Date

1856 1C Snow-3 PR64 PCGS. The repunched 5 in the date and the die scratch below the right ribbon end confirm the Snow-3 attribution. Rick Snow writes in his series reference: "By correlating the surviving population of this issue [about 500 pieces] with the historical record, it is nearly certain that this issue makes up most or all of the 634 specimens originally distributed to Congress to help promote passage of the pending coinage bill." This satiny bronze-gold near-Gem displays a needle-sharp impression. Carbon and contact are minimal. A fantastic example of the famous Flying Eagle cent key date.
