Description

1856 Flying Eagle Cent, PR65+
Beautiful Snow-3 Key Date

1856 1C Snow-3 PR65+ PCGS. Snow-3 is one of the more plentiful 1856 Flying Eagle cent varieties, more often seen in proof than certified as a business strike. Repunching on the upright of the 5 aids in attribution. This high-end Gem proof is one of just four pieces in this grade with a Plus designation at PCGS, and that service lists only four coins finer (9/20). The eye appeal is simply outstanding. Luminous satin luster illuminates fully struck design elements, which are especially sharp on the eagle's tailfeathers and the wreath bow. Bright tan-gold central luster cedes to deeper yellow-gold around the borders, and neither side has distracting abrasions. Population: 54 in 65 (4 in 65+), 4 finer (9/20).
From The Maurice Storck Collection.
