Description

1856 Flying Eagle Cent, PR62
Desirable Low Leaves Snow-4

1856 1C Snow-4 PR62 PCGS. The rare Snow-4 could someday command a significant premium over the "common" Snow-9 1856 Flying Eagle cent, since it has a Low Leaves Reverse. Among die varieties for the date, Snow-10 (one example known) is the only other marriage with a Low Leaves Reverse. Snow-4 is Low Rarity-7 in copper-nickel and High Rarity-7 in nickel, compared to the Rarity-2 High Leaves Reverse Snow-9. Snow-4 is also a "Pointed U" variety, named after a small die gouge at the base of the letter U in UNITED. The present specimen is well struck save for softness on the low relief ONE CENT. The luminous apricot-gold surfaces are essentially unabraded and display distributed minute carbon flecks.
